There is no shortage of examples of how DEI has produced toxic results in companies and academic settings. However, it is also important to examine history to fully understand how dangerous DEI could become if it continues to run free.
Gad Saad, a famous Canadian professor, recently provided excellent historical examples of how scientific terminology has been twisted by evil individuals with a political agenda. The methodology of these past events bears some resemblance to current DEI practices.
Although DEI is becoming more common in universities, Gad Saad expressed hope that the logical majority still has the ability to push back against DEI. It is imperative that individuals in these settings help restore and maintain academic standards at these institutions.
DEI and Science issues
In a recent interview, Gad Saad provided some unique insights about how DEI efforts at universities were harming scientific development. Moreover, he also made some relevant historical precedents of when people misused science to pursue a political agenda. Some of these ideas are not only woke or strange but could become dangerous if society does not push back.
DEI Faces New Criticism
Multiple universities in the United States, such as UNC Chapel Hill, recently removed DEI programs after seeing some of their toxic outcomes. Moreover, states like Texas and Florida have banned DEI at all public universities.
This is a very positive trend as DEI can not only result in political tensions but also reduce the quality of the institutions. Leading academic institutions in the United States should focus exclusively on scientific research, as they can’t afford all of the distractions that come with DEI policies.
Gad Saad Talks About his Philosophy of Not Complying
Gad Saad shared information about how major universities in Canada, such as the University of Waterloo, were seeking non-binary candidates instead of focusing solely on credentials. This requirement was for a very high-level role, which is deeply concerning and challenging for many people to believe.
He also mentioned how many grants often required applicants to submit a DEI statement. Anyone who decides to push back may not receive funding and have to look for options elsewhere. In this manner, many people who may be neutral or opposed to DEI may decide to comply to avoid missing out on opportunities or even facing repercussions from the universities.
Gad shared how it was very difficult for him to comply with these requirements because it would make him feel like a fraud. On the other hand, other professors may feel pressured to comply or keep silent to maintain their positions and obtain funding for research.
How Science has been Misused for Political Purposes
At the beginning of the interview, Gad Saad discussed how the scientific method was in decline in society for many reasons. He also stated some of the flawed ideas he observed in universities and explained how these related to individualism and previous political conflicts.
Gad noted that some people were pushing genetic determinism, the idea that people functioned like robots and were blind executors of their genetics. However, he has pointed out in his evolutionary studies that human behavior is a function of our genes interacting with our environment.
However, the more significant problem he noted is how some of these evolutionary ideas could become very dangerous when used by the wrong groups. Gad mentioned how British elitists referenced the natural struggle between classes and used this as a pretext to perpetuate poor conditions for the peasants. These elitists believed that this injustice was merely natural selection.
On an even darker note, eugenics have also used some of these theories, such as Social Darwinism, to push radical ideas to purge Jews and other groups from society. Sadly, the rise of DEI has also been linked to a rise in anti-semitism on college campuses. The wheels are in motion as these toxic DEI ideas continue to spread, and the dominant level-headed academics should take this threat seriously and push back.
Gad makes the astute observation that history is littered with examples of people misusing evolutionary principles to push their toxic political agendas.
“A whole long line of really nefarious folks misused evolutionary principles to advance their political ideologies. So the social sciences decided, in their infinite wisdom, why don't we build edifices that are void of biological thinking because then hopefully we can curtail the possibility that someone will use them. But you can’t, in the pursuit of some noble goal, murder and rape truth.”
It is crucial for Western universities to preserve unadulterated science and to eliminate DEI, which has become a very dangerous distraction in Western universities.
DEI has no Value
Gad Saad also explained how DEI had no value to offer to scientific progress and that universities should not select candidates on this basis. While there may be some cases where a person of a certain race may be at an advantage, in terms of local knowledge or other factors, the scientific process is universal. Race and diversity have no impact on this process.
Gad Saad recently commented on this matter during an interview with Jordan Peterson.
“ If I want to study something about the flora or fauna of an Indigenous territory where Indigenous people have lived for thousands of years, I can defer to their domain specific knowledge because they have lived within that ecosystem. So specific knowledge about a specific phenomenon could be attributed to Group A knowing more than Group B. But the epistemology of how I study the flora and fauna within that ecosystem, how I adjudicate scientific issues within that ecosystem…There isn’t a competition between the scientific method and the indigenous way of knowing. There is only one game in town. It’s called the scientific method.”
Many universities are pivoting away from the scientific method and focusing more efforts on DEI, even when there is not a need for domain specific knowledge from these groups.
Universities Can be Repaired
We should all be terrified of the harmful impact of DEI after examining some of the historical issues that Gad Saad mentioned.
DEI is a dangerous idea in science because it does not focus on the standards or the process and instead elevates race and other factors. Shockingly, new data from UCLA showed how the university was producing sub-par medical students due to the university lowering its standards and pushing for diversity. Students who are not fully prepared for the rigorous exam work and initial role as a doctor could pose major health risks to the community.
Although the prestige of universities is certainly going downhill, it is likely still early enough for universities to regain their footing. In an interview, Gad was very optimistic about the role of universities and believed they could push back against the toxic DEI ideologies.
“ I think they can be repaired. At its fundamental reality, universities serve a great purpose. And it's not as though they are populated with a majority of blue haired maniacs, but it's the blue haired maniacs who are the loud ones that are the activists that get the attention of the administrators that keep the rest of us in check. All you need to do is find a way to get the silent majority to invoke their courage, to find their spines, and then I think it could be turned around.”
Gad Saad has set a fine example by refusing to apply for grants that require a DEI statement. Although other academics may feel hesitant to follow, it is imperative for people to begin pushing back against some of the toxic DEI ideas before it becomes too late. The silent majority has a lot of power, and academics could easily join forces to dismantle this system and preserve the integrity of science.
Final Thoughts
Gad Saad brought to light many issues with anti-scientific ideas in universities. Moreover, he also provided a list of historical benchmarks that should have many people concerned about the toxic attributes of DEI. It is imperative to understand how DEI is not only illogical, but also very dangerous for the preservation of science and logic. In extreme cases, many people have twisted scientific concepts for their own political purposes and committed atrocities. The DEI movement bears similarities to many of these movements, and should be approached as such.
As he has been with much of the radical leftist agenda, Joe Biden is one of the most effective (and dangerous) advocates of DEI in government…….He has signed several Executive Orders implementing sweeping diversity standards throughout the Federal Government, no matter the consequences.
Yet another reason to vote for Donald Trump…..
DEI with regard to ppl wanting a degree in the medical field is truly terrifying. There are other professions as well like pilots. We must all raise our concerns and raise our voices! Thank you for posting! Sabrinalabow.substack.com
