Teachers Unions Are Ruining Schools Across the Nation
50% of state budgets go to public school indoctrination
Across the United States, teacher’s unions regularly claim they exist to support the education system, protect teachers, and help students learn crucial skills. They argue that when teachers thrive, so can the pupils they educate. In theory, this sounds great. In reality, what teacher’s unions are up to is anything but helpful.
Today, teacher’s unions are little more than an extension of the Democrat Party. They repeatedly oppose school choice initiatives that would empower parents to play a more active role in their children’s education. Years ago, teacher’s unions even sabotaged school reopenings, thanks to their insistence on COVID vaccine requirements and mask mandates.
During this period, students across the country fell behind in their academic studies, which we’re still seeing the ripple effects of. To this day, the teacher’s unions were never made to answer for this or even apologize for their behavior.
Now, new information reveals that these groups are gearing up to do even more harm to education and schools across the United States.
The Great Danger of Teachers Unions
Public schools are in shambles. At the rate things are going, the federal government will soon be printing more money to remedy existing problems.
As recently pointed out by Steve Forbes, many of our schools are projected to shut down in the years ahead, due to a lack of students. On top of that, the money that public schools received during the height of COVID wasn’t used appropriately and has quickly dried up.
Amid the chaos, our nation’s teacher’s unions have a huge hand in this. The school shutdowns they championed directly led to a major decline in enrollments. Even today, the amount of students attending classes stands well below pre-COVID levels.
It gets worse, though. Despite the surge in spending, with over 50% of our nation’s state budgets going toward public schools, the quality of education is getting worse. Teachers unions have rallied for kids to be indoctrinated with woke agendas, much to the horror of parents across the country.
When parents pushed back accordingly, school administrators and teachers unions treated them with contempt. They stated parents shouldn’t be asking questions and had no right to raise issues.
Joe Biden even threw fuel on this fire years ago when he declared that students “belong” to the teachers who are indoctrinating them. Before long, parents who questioned the procedures of public schools and various lesson plans were vilified by teacher’s unions as “domestic terrorists.”
By all accounts, teacher’s unions have proven they can’t be trusted. Parents cannot rely upon these groups to ensure their kids are being educated (rather than indoctrinated) and looked after. As a result, more people are turning to alternate options.
Teachers Unions Only Have Themselves to Blame
Over the years, teacher’s unions happily enjoyed the perks of being overfunded. They’ve wasted American taxpayers dollars and enough is enough. To remedy this, parents are increasingly turning to homeschooling and private schools for their children. This has since fueled growing support for school choice, much to the annoyance of left-wing teacher’s unions.
Parents know that when their kids are homeschooled or sent to private school, they’ll receive a real education. On top of that, parents don’t have to worry about their children being used as political pawns. They can make decisions or ask questions of educators without being looked down upon or slandered as “domestic terrorists.”
As more parents turn away from public schools, expect teacher’s unions to do anything to regain power. They won’t admit they went wrong, mismanaged funds, or made mistakes. Instead, there will be a bigger push to sabotage school voucher programs and force kids back into public classrooms where they’re learning next to nothing of value.
Teachers unions, each and every time, prioritize their own political power over the best interests of our nation’s youth.
Democrat-run Cities Are in Trouble
Republicans in red and purple states have been able to successfully push back against some of the teachers unions’ worst impulses. Sadly, the same can’t be said for schools in blue states where Democrats are in charge.
Chicago, Illinois is a prime example. Since 2012, spending on public schools increased by a staggering 97%, yet reading and math grades have still declined by 63% and 78%. Teacher’s unions would have Americans believe that throwing more money at these facilities is the solution. In actuality, these schools need to be completely reformed, otherwise nothing will change.
No matter how much money the federal government prints and no matter how much of the state budget is sent towards public schools, these institutions will keep suffering with the teacher’s unions in charge.
Americans don’t have to lose hope, though. The first step towards fixing this is voting for conservative officials who will prioritize education, without being beholden to special interest groups. Left unchecked, Democrats will keep helping the teacher’s unions get away with ruining our nation’s schools, with no thought for the long-term consequences.
The downward slide began in 1969, when the American Teachers Association changed from a professional organization to a bargaining unit, or union. There was continuous decline, briefly interrupted by the No Child Left Behind Act, created by President G.W. Bush and Senator Ted Kennedy. As part of his campaign, Barrack Obama promised teachers that he would get rid of NCLB, which held teachers accountable for results. He kept his promise, and the black-white gap, which had been closing at three percentage points per year, returned to expanding by one percent per year.
“with no thought to the consequences”, they aren’t capable of rational thought. At least most of them and the few that are keep quiet or risk losing their jobs. Most teachers (under 50) were indoctrinated at the colleges they attended. This “program” of promoting anti-American values in higher education began way back and while it’s no excuse for the demented view most of them hold to, it explains how we got here. They need to be held accountable for the abysmal academic performance of kids. We are already falling very behind most other industrialized countries and don’t have enough qualified ppl to fill STEM occupations. This was a problem a decade ago and the COVID debacle has seriously exacerbated it. The future of America as world leaders in science looks bleak and with DEI it only gets worse. We are witnessing the end result of a long term effort to undermine western civilization.
The chickens have returned to roost, and the fruits of all this are being harvested.
